Častolovice Chateau is one of the most beautiful Renaissance chateaus in the Czech Republic. It is privately owned by the Countess Diana Phipps Sternberg who has been overlooking all the operations as well. The chateau is situated in East Bohemia at the confluence of the Bělá and Kněžna rivers between the cities Hradec Králové and Rychnov nad Kněžnou (next to the road No. 11).

The significant chatteau tower draws attention of everyone who passes through the Častolovice village. The chateau groundplan was built into the square shape with a vast courtyard in the middle dominated by a Baroque fountain from the 18th century. The treetops of the Wilson´s toplars provide calming shade for relaxing while listening to classical music silently playing in the background. A nice café or a kiosk nearby will offer you some refreshments. Apart from the golden fish in the fountain water there are several types of parrots living in the aviary.

A permanent exhibition of the chateau includes twenty rooms with historical furniture from the time of the Renaissance until the Biedermeier period. Specific beauty of the chateau is created by the textiles, numerous personal belongings, photographs and flowers. The Knights´ Room (300 m2)  with its painted waffle ceiling is a must – see.

The Chateau Gallery holds expositions of contemporary artists.

A welcome addition to the chateau is a tour designed for the blind and visually impaired (it must be booked in advance). During the one – hour lasting tour the blind can come into contact with art and history through haptic perception.

The adjacent English park with a hundred  - year - old linden trees alley is not only a great place for strolling. Children will love the playground or the chateau animal farm where they can feed exotic animals such as lamas, ponies, Göttingen minipigs, Cameroon Dwarf goats and many more. There is also a game preserve including white fallow deer or Dybowski deer.

Madam Diana Sternberg has collected about 150 types of old – fashioned roses planted around the chateau which are widely admired by visitors mostly in June. The Rose and Water garden contains a variety of flowers and ornamental shrubs as well. The Garden house Gloriet built in 2011 next to the pond with an islet, which became home to wild ducks, is a lovely point to get some snacks.

The chateau is partially accessible for physically disabled.
