Jaroměř

Kladsko Borderlands and Broumov Region

The town is on the site of an 11th century Slavic settlement. It is located 16 km from Hradec Králové, on the confluence of the Elbe, Úpa and Metuje rivers.

The royal dowry town of Jaroměř, also known as the city of gardens and parks, is a historic seat at the confluence of three rivers – the Elbe, Úpa and Metuje. The dominant feature of the centre of the town is the Gothic Cathedral of St. Nicholas. Other attractions in Jaroměř include the Railway Museum and the Wenke department store (now home to museums and galleries). The Josefov fortress town (now part of Jaroměř) was founded in the 18th century according to the plans of French military builders, and is a masterpiece of European urbanism and fortification art. The greatest tourist attractions are the underground passages.
